Grant #5 is Paid!

Fri, Jan 6, 2023 12:00 AM

Just prior to Christmas, President Cinda Poppe was able to present a $15,000 check to Dr. Nathan Meador at the District Office (pictured here). This fulfills the LWML SWD commitment for Grant # 5 on our list for the 2022-24 biennium. The goal behind this grant, entitled, Outreach to Female Inmates, is to develop a new position within the correctional system for a deaconess to reach out specifically to females that are incarcerated. Dr. Meador and the SWD LCMS will be working with Chaplain Afam Ikanih to make this happen. Because this is a step into the unknown and uncharted, we ask God to be in every detail of the plan and search for a candidate.
Beginning anew in 2023, the money from the next grant will go to A Place of Refuge Ministries of South Wisconsin. They have requested a sum of $25,000 for the purpose of Refuge House Renovation. After the overturn of Roe vs. Wade, the world is watching to see what the pro-life community is doing now to address the issue of abortion. A Place of Refuge has been active for over 30 years and the Refuge House more than 20 years. It has been home to many moms and their children. Renovation is an ongoing thing and so LWML is supporting their efforts at upkeep and maintenance. Can we present a check before the summer months? We serve an awesome and powerful God who engages us with the task of spreading the Gospel in this finite time and space. We can do it, through God's grace and the continuous collection of mites. This "system" has worked for 80 years for LWML. And the legacy goes on into the future. With God's help, anything is possible.
